Frequently Asked Questions

To enroll in Compass Rose Medicare Advantage you must be a retiree enrolled in the High Option Compass Rose Health Plan and enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B.

No, this is a custom Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) plan designed exclusively for High Option Compass Rose Health Plan retirees. This plan is offered as part of the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program and should not be confused with individual UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans that might be available in the area.

No, Compass Rose Medicare Advantage was designed in collaboration with OPM to allow you to retain your status in the FEHB program.

In fact, you can disenroll from Compass Rose Medicare Advantage's enhanced level of benefits at any time and return to the High Option Compass Rose Health Plan.

You must pay our High Option Compass Rose Health Plan premium and your Medicare Part B premium. Plus, you and your eligible enrolled spouse will each receive a $125 per month Medicare Part B premium reduction.

Note: You may incur an additional Part D IRMAA (an Original Medicare rule) when enrolling in this plan.

Dependents who are not Medicare eligible or not Medicare primary will remain on the High Option Compass Rose Health Plan.

IRMAA stands for income-related monthly adjustment amount. It is an amount Social Security determines you may need to pay in addition to your monthly Medicare Part B premium if your modified adjusted gross income on your IRS tax return from 2 years ago is:

  • Above $103,000* for an individual
  • Above $206,000* for a couple

Because Compass Rose Medicare Advantage’s included prescription drug coverage is considered a Part D plan, you may incur an additional Part D IRMAA (an Original Medicare rule) when enrolling in this plan. The extra amount is paid directly to Social Security, not to your plan.

Two years following a decrease in your modified adjusted gross income, you can request the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) perform a lookback to have your IRMAA decreased or removed if applicable.

If you are subject to IRMAA, Social Security will send you a letter. The letter will explain how they determined the amount you must pay and the actual IRMAA. The Compass Rose Health Plan does not determine who will be subject to IRMAA. Therefore, if you disagree with the amount you must pay, contact the Social Security Administration. You can:

* These amounts are accurate for 2024. Medicare will determine the 2025 IRMAA charge in the 4th quarter of 2024.
